Do paid family leave policies help fix the gender pay gap? Bailey’s study found the opposite.

Martha Bailey, PSC Research Professor, co-authored findings for a major study of the economic impact of paid family leave policies. “As an economist, I’ve always wondered whether or not these policies work as well as billed.” They found a surprising negative impact for first time mothers. “I think the answer has to be that we think smarter about how to design those policies, that also encourage fathers to take leave.”
