DeWitt’s map of 40-year shifts in Baltimore’s racial composition helps explain April 2015 uprising

This article reviews Baltimore’s demographic shifts over the latter half of the 20th century, as the white population declined dramatically and the black population shot upward. JP DeWitt’s dynamic map shows this shift. The resultant race and poverty segregation in Baltimore led to riots in 1968, and, the author argues, the subsequent adoption of a ‘police state.’
