Danziger says U.S. poverty policies don’t adequately address growing income gap

The latest census data show that the gap between the richest and poorest Americans grew to a record high in 2009. The incomes of the wealthiest 5% of Americans rose slightly, while the proportion of the poorest poor increased. Lower-skilled adults ages 18 to 34 had the largest increases in poverty in 2009.
