Burgard et al. find job insecurity has negative health impact on workers

September 06, 2012

Sarah Burgard and colleagues found that Michigan workers surveyed in 2009-2010 who felt it was at least “fairly likely” that they would lose their jobs within a year were nearly 3 times as likely to rate their health as fair to poor than workers with more job security. “The study provides some of the first available evidence on the extent and distribution of perceived job insecurity and its association with health in the wake of the Great Recession,” says Burgard. Their study is published in the [Sept 2012 issue of JOEM.](http://journals.lww.com/joem/pages/default.aspx)
