In a study examining suicide attempt risk factors, methods, and timing among soldiers, Steven Heeringa and colleagues found the highest risk among those who never deployed. And those who did deploy were at greatest risk in their second month of service. The study, which included more than 975,000 enlisted soldiers, was part of the Army Study to Assess Risk and Resilience in Servicemembers (Army STARRS).
