Armstrong says USC’s removal of questions from a required Title IX training module may reflect student-administration relations

January 28, 2016

After a USC student complained about the “super personal” questions on a Title IX-mandated training module on sex discrimination and sexual harassment, USC administrators apologized and removed them. The items, answered by students anonymously and with a “no-comment” option, focused on sexual encounters and their use of contraception, alcohol, and drugs. Although Elizabeth Armstrong laments the loss of these data, which “would enable analysis of how patterns of sexual behavior relate to risk of assault or perpetration,” she says student objections may reflect distrust of USC’s administration.
