Armstrong says gender double standard accounts for women’s disadvantage and participation in ‘hookup culture’

This piece looks at why women continue to be drawn to Tinder – a ‘hookup app’ that male users seem to love and many female users seem to hate. Although the author claims current feminism extols the virtues of women treating sex like men do – ie, offhandedly – she says that women are in fact disappointed by the hookup culture and asks: Why do women keep using Tinder? Elizabeth Armstrong says it’s complicated: “For young women the problem in navigating sexuality and relationships is still gender inequality. We need to puzzle out why women have made more strides in the public arena than in the private arena.”
