Arline Geronimus elected to Institute of Medicine, 2013

Arline Geronimus has been elected to the Institute of Medicine, one of the highest honors in health and medicine. New members are elected by active IOS members who consider major contributions to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care, and public health. The IOM is both an honorific membership organization and an advisory organization. Established in 1970 by the National Academy of Sciences, IOM is recognized as a national resource for independent, scientifically informed analysis and recommendations on health issues. Geronimus’s work focuses on the complex influence of material, environmental and psychosocial stressors on racial/ethnic health inequality from the societal to cellular level, with implications from fetal life through old age.
