Adhvaryu on how promoting worker welfare contributes to profitability in India’s garment industry

March 23, 2018

Achyuta Adhvaryu co-founded the Good Business Lab in 2016 to promote training in soft skills like time and stress management, problem solving, communication, and teamwork for India’s garment workers. “Our goal with starting a foundation is to study interventions that have the potential to impact worker welfare while also promoting the growth of firms,” Adhvaryu said. “We incubate new ideas and serve as a platform to disseminate findings from our research.”But the Lab does much more than research. With funding from the UK and Indian governments, and Shahi Exports, it will establish 10 garment-sector skill enhancement centers for women in rural locations. The women who complete the training will be offered jobs at one of Shahi Exports’ garment factories. The Lab will track these women/factories over time to evaluate the impact of such training.
