The proposed research aims to characterize intergenerational mobility in the early 20th century by (1) creating a new data resource that can characterize intergenerational income and education mobility in all U.S. states; (2) including women and a greater share of racial and ethnic minorities to provide a more complete understanding of mobility across sex and race subgroups; (3) generating large enough samples to allow us to correlate early 20th century policies and area characteristics with mobility for the early 20th century, similar to Chetty et al?s Opportunity Atlas for the modern period; and (4) assessing the impact of exposure to local socio-economic factors on intergenerational mobility.
