U-M’s Wolfers on study showing “outright hostility” toward women in economics

Alice Wu, who will begin as a doctoral student at Harvard in 2018, wrote a senior thesis at Berkeley which analyzed more than a million posts from the anonymous online message board [Economics Job Market Rumors](https://www.econjobrumors.com/) – examining terms most commonly associated wit posts about men and about women. As Justin Wolfers says in this *NYT* opinion piece: “The 30 words most uniquely associated with discussions of women make for uncomfortable reading.” Wu also evaluated the underlying themes for postings about men and women, finding that those about men were more likely to be confined to economics while those about women were more likely to address personal matters.
