Smock discusses the “new American family” on NPR

Pamela Smock says the sexual revolution of the 1960s paved the way for new family formation patterns, including cohabitation, childbearing outside of marriage, same-sex and multi-racial couples, more divorced parents and step-families, and fluid household membership. Smock says that some of these changes have had destabilizing influences on children.
