Langa says Alzheimer’s nearly as lethal as heart disease and cancer, and more costly to treat

A new study of autopsied brains indicates that death rates from Alzheimer’s are much higher than reported — perhaps close to those for the two current leading causes of death, heart disease and cancer. Kenneth Langa says that, despite the lethal nature of Alzheimer’s, the high costs of treatment, and the growing proportion of the population at risk, Alzheimer’s receives much less federal research funding than other diseases.
