Nature-based climate action through employment-based social assistance program: Evidence from India
Nabin Pradhan

This research relies on an interdisciplinary approach, bringing together public policy and social-ecological systems to uncover the interconnected drivers of inequality, climate change, and biodiversity loss. The project investigated the multiple co-benefits of public works programs on economic, environmental, and social dimensions within rural communities in India. Specifically, the study evaluated the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), the world’s largest employment guarantee program. This work complemented a national-level analysis of the impact of MGNREGS on multiple sustainability outcomes.
